Loving Your Monsters
A reflection on a melt down I had in front of my husband where he, without judgement, witnessed & held me, validated my experience, and took care of me with so much tender love the days that followed.
Something happens when the monsters inside of you are seen and met with unconditional love and compassion; The walls protecting your heart fall away.
It might still feel like you’re in the dark but somehow, you’re not alone anymore. There’s love there.
The days that follow get a little brighter, feel a little lighter, and the mustard seed of hope you held on to begins to sprout.
We are not meant to be the only ones that water ourselves. We truly need community to help tend to our mental health garden. We thrive when we take care of each other and we each feel cared for, and that includes you.
I want to normalize that it’s okay to seek attention, especially when you had very little/none as a child. It’s okay to have needs now, especially if your needs were inconvenient, shamed or ridiculed as being “needy” in the past. It’s okay to desire to play instead of work, especially if you had to grow up too fast for survival. It’s okay to seek validation or words of affirmation from people you feel safe with in adulthood because the voices in your head may be saying the opposite if the adults in your childhood weren’t supportive and encouraging.
Whatever your flavor of survival strategy is, it’s okay, as long as it’s not hurting anyone else. It makes sense that you respond that specific way based on what you’ve been through.
I see your monsters and they are safe here. 🫂 The more we can begin to share and unshame our monsters, the more we get to know who lives behind those walls. We can begin to tend to that inner child and finally get those needs met on their behalf.
And if you’re tired of doing this alone and want to reclaim your power in order to live a life you love, reach out for private coaching. I would absolutely love to help ❤️
